As you may know, each egg may be thrown and has a 1/8 chance of producing chickens. There is a chance of 4,3,2, or 1 chicken being produced in each egg that does give a chicken. Because of these facts, I made this chicken coop.

De-spawning takes place when you move 144 units away from a neutral or hostile mob. For this reason, you cannot leave your chicken coop until you have enough eggs to replace all of your chickens (preferably more.) 40 min. should be adequate for this purpose.

In order to start your egg supply/chickens, find a chicken in the wild and trap it in a hole or build walls around it. Wait for it to lay an egg. Immediately after collecting that egg, go to your chicken coop and throw the egg against the wall. If chickens hatch, then collect eggs from them and repeat. If you stay at your chicken coop for awhile and continue to chuck eggs against the wall, your amount of chickens should double every 30-40 min. After you are done chucking then wait for another 30-40 min. to replenish your supply of eggs. When you know you will leave the coop for a while, kill the chickens however you want for feathers. My favorite is to drown them by putting blocks right over the floating water though you can kill them by sicking your wolves on them or lava-ing them to death.

It might be Simplecraft. Also those chickens will despawn if you move away.

I have a nice mob trap.

3x3x3 pit beside near my house, lots of torches to let passive mobs spawn, I leave MC on for one MC day, then come back and reap the rewards.
