Even though the 3000 and Go are unhackable, that doesn't mean they aren't un-exploitable. Currently on my PSP 3000 running OFW 6.20, I am playing old GBA, N64, Sega Genesis, SNES, and random home-brew games.

Does anyone else do this? I was wanting to know of some awesome programs I can put on my PSP besides emulators.

This isn't illegal. Razz

I don't own a PSP, so I obviously can't do this.

If everything is homebrew, then yes, it's perfectly legal (I think. I'm not sure about cross platform laws). If you're running ROMs, then it isn't. Anyway, I don't have any legal (or for that case, illegal) programs other than emulators for the PSP.

If you're running NDS roms that you didn't purchase *cough* then it's illegal also, and some of the older game systems didn't technically license their software because there was no way to transfer it from the cartridge to the computer at that time.

Courts have ruled that it is illegal to own ROMs of a game while it has copyrights on it. Knowing that video games have been out for less than 30 years, there are still 30 or 40 years left until owning ROMs of any game will be legal.

This discussion is slightly breaking the rules, and I'd like to talk about the subject at hand, which is PSP Homebrew.

Nope. Emulators are completely legal. They can be used with Homebrew. There's nothing illegal about Homebrew and Emulators. Laws start to kick in when you begin downloading ROMs.

I never said download a rom though. He could convert his own PSX games into roms for them. He would not be downloading them and would not be breaking the law correct?

I think this is still breaking the law. I believe that they made a law about making backups for your games (absolutely retarded, but oh well), but I'm not sure.

LOL Alice, we never said we CARED about that particular law, but more about upholding the forum rules which strictly disallows illegality.

Why not? Piracy laws protect others' hard work, and should be followed when possible.

We never said whether or not we cared about those laws. I personally think people should be rewarded for their hard work, but not in he case of old games that aren't sold by the game makers anymore. They know that they won't ever make any money off of that game again anyways...

Yep, just like VHSs, they are no longer being made so we are free to trade and sell our VHS's to our heart's content.
